5 Myths About Wedding Videos~Busted

5 Myths About Wedding Videos~Busted

Why Do We Believe Terrible Things About Wedding Videos?

When most people think about wedding videos, they think of cheesy home movies that feature the bride and groom awkwardly dancing around the living room. While it’s true that some wedding videos can be cringe-worthy, there are also a lot of great wedding videos out there that capture all the important moments of the big day. In order to help you decide if hiring a videographer is right for you, here are 5 myths about wedding videos that are busted!

Myth #1- Wedding Videos are Cheesy

When it comes to the old myth that Wedding Videos are cheesy with a lot of corny guest interviews you can that TV sitcoms that popularized that view. Quite the opposite it true. Most professional Wedding Videographers take their trade seriously and spend considerable time going over what’s important to the bride & groom on their big day. What you end up with is a classy wedding film that’s both emotional and preserves your memories.

Myth #2- You Can Wait to Hire a Wedding Videographer

This is one of the worse myths because it leaves so many couples disappointed in their wedding day. The NUMBER ONE regret brides have after their wedding day is not hiring a Wedding Videographer. Wedding Videos are sought after and if you don’t book at least a year in advance you could be scraping the bottom of the perverbial barrel or worse, you could be forced to go without a video at all. Myth #3- The Longer the Video the Better

YAWN, this myth about wedding videos almost put me to sleep. Kind of like Lord of the Rings did. Yes. I went there. A longer wedding video does not mean it’s better. It means there’s more chance of getting bored and frustrated before you’re done watching it. Your favorite sitcoms (you know the ones guilty of Myth #1?) run about 20-25 minutes and that’s the perfect amount of time to keep your attention while still being enjoyable. I’m not kidding about LOTR, oh and I won’t even click on a youtube video that’s longer than 14 mintues. I’m peacing out on that one. No thanks.

Myth #4- Photography is Enough For Me

I swear this is one that Wedding Photographers created so they don’t have to share the spotlight with wedding videos. I kid, I kid. In all reality, while photography is an important part of capturing a wedding, wedding videos are often just as important, if not more important, than photographs.

There are many reasons why wedding videos are so important. First of all, a video can capture things that photographs cannot. For example, a video can capture the emotion of the day, including the laughter and tears of happiness. A video can also capture the ambiance and feeling of the wedding day, which is something that cannot be captured with photographs alone. What should be included in your Wedding Video?

Don’t Miss These 5 MUST-HAVES in Your Wedding Video

Myth #5- A Friend or Family Can Just Do Wedding Videos

When it comes time to choose someone to capture your wedding day memories on video, you may be tempted to ask a friend or family member. While this can be a cost-effective (and super cringe-worthy) option, there are several reasons why you should consider hiring a professional videographer instead.

First of all, wedding videos are a unique and important keepsake. They document the emotions and excitement of your big day in a way that photos can’t. A professional videographer has the experience and skills necessary to capture all the important moments of your wedding in a beautiful and cinematic way.

Second, hiring a pro ensures that your video will be high quality. With all the planning that goes into your wedding, it’s important to have someone you can trust to handle the filming. A professional will have the latest equipment and editing software, ensuring that your video is polished and perfect.

What Myths Did we Help you Overcome about Wedding Videos?

In conclusion, there are many myths about wedding videos that need to be debunked. Weddings videos can be a great way to capture your memories and relive your day for years to come. They can also be a great way to share your day with friends and family who were not able to attend. However, wedding videos should not be used to replace photography. They should be used as an addition to photography in order to capture all of the important moments of your wedding day.

Talk It Over at the Beginning

When it comes to hiring a wedding videographer, many couples wait until the last minute. This is often a mistake, as good videographers tend to book up well in advance. It’s best to start planning for your wedding video as early as possible.

One of the benefits of hiring a videographer early on is that you have time to shop around and find someone who fits your budget and style. You also have time to work out all the details with your videographer, such as the shooting schedule and what footage you want captured.

Waiting until the last minute can also lead to rushed decisions and higher costs. If you’re looking for a quality wedding video that will capture all the important moments of your big day, it’s best to start planning ahead and hire a wedding videographer sooner rather than later.

This allows them to take the time to intierview potential candidates and browse samples of wedding vidoes.

So, When Are You Going to Hire?

In conclusion, it is important to start planning for your wedding videographer as soon as possible. This will allow you enough time to research and find the best videographer for your big day. 10 Questions to Ask a Wedding Videographer Before You Hire

10 Questions to Ask a Wedding Videographer Before You Hire

How Do You Choose a Wedding Videographer?

When planning a wedding, it’s important to consider all the details, big and small. One of the decisions that needs to be made is whether or not to hire a wedding videographer. We’re going to leave out the most obvious question “Are you available for my day?” However, if you’re on the fence about whether or not to hire one, here are some questions to ask potential videographers before making your decision:

Wedding Video
Wedding at Whispering Trees Manor

How Long Have You Been Filming Weddings?

The first thing thing you should ask any potential Wedding Videographer is how long they’ve been filming weddings. To go along with that you can ask how many weddings they’ve filmed. Just because someone has been filming weddings doesn’t mean they’re the best choice. Someone who’s only filmed 10 weddings in 10 years has less experience than someone who’s filmed 30 in 5 years. It’s important to note that a videographers experience will directly effect their cost: How Much Does a Great Wedding Videographer Cost?

What’s Your Style?

Just like every other Wedding Professional a Videographer has their own unique style. (Hopefully) Some film in a journalistic sense that will feel more like a documentary. Some film in a Cinematic sense that may not come in chronological order or your audio may be dubbed over film clips from different moments. Our team combines the Documentation and Cinematic Styles to bring you an emotional story told in chronological order so you can enjoy watching it like you would your favorite TV show.

What moments should be included in your wedding video: Must Have Wedding Moments

What’s Included in your Service?

When you hire a videographer, they will usually provide a range of services to capture your wedding day. This may include the filming of the ceremony, reception and speeches as well as capturing natural shots of the guests enjoying themselves. Some videographers may also offer to create a montage of your wedding day or even produce a short film. It’s important to discuss what is included in your package with your chosen videographer to ensure you are happy with the services they will be providing. Double Check that Audio is included so you’re not disappointed later.

Wedding Video

Have You Ever Worked at my Wedding Venue?

It’s important to ask if they’ve ever filmed at your wedding venue before.
Many videographers have their go-to venues where they feel comfortable and confident filming, so it’s important to make sure your venue is on that list. If it’s not, don’t worry – many videographers are happy to film at new venues, but it’s always good to ask ahead of time.
When interviewing videographers, be sure to ask about their experience filming at different types of venues. Some videographers have more experience filming at traditional churches and country clubs, while others have more experience shooting in modern museums and warehouses.

Are You Flying Solo or will You Have a Partner?

When it comes to wedding videography, many couples are opting to have a second shooter. This is someone who captures footage from a different angle, often capturing the bride and groom from behind. Having a second shooter can add an extra layer of excitement to your wedding video, and it can be a great way to capture memories from different perspectives. If you’re considering hiring a second shooter for your wedding, here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Make sure that your videographer has experience shooting weddings with two shooters. Not all videographers have this experience, so be sure to ask before you book.

2. Discuss what the second shooter’s role will be. Will they be responsible for capturing the bride and groom’s reactions? The details of the ceremony? Or something else entirely?

3. Be prepared to pay extra for a second shooter.

Music Sets the Mood

When selecting music for your wedding video, it is important for your videographer to consider the overall vibe you want to create. Do you want a romantic and elegant feel? Or something more upbeat and fun? Once you have a general idea of the mood you are going for you should be able to discuss this with your videographer. They may have recommendations or even already have some songs in mind that would work well. Remember that your videographer has to use licensed music and for that reason you won’t be able to use the same songs you hear on the radio. Getting permission to use songs by popular artists on your wedding video can be costly. Most often, couples and their videographers use music by lesser known artists who make their music available for things like this.

Will You Be the One at My Wedding?

This might seem like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised. We have lots of videography companies offering service in our area that aren’t even from our area. I just heard about a wedding last October that hired a videographer who they never spoke to or met. They found some internet service that hired a third party to show up at their most intimate moment to film them. I don’t know about you, but that sounds awful to me. As a Wedding Professional I feel that we provide the best service when we get to know our clients and they feel comfortable with us.

What Input do you Want From Us?

This is a very important thing to ask any potential Wedding Videographer. If they don’t want your input about your video……..RUN! The most crucial part of being a wedding professional is remembering who the big day is about. Just because someone has 30 years of experience doesn’t make them the best match if they don’t have time to listen to you. Not every couple is the same and you don’t want to be treated like a machine part on an assembly line. A professional telling you that your input is important to them is what you’re looking for. They’ll combine their experience with your dreams to make a lasting wedding video for you.

Who Do You Like to Work With?

When you ask them this question, expect honesty. I’m always up front with our clients about our experiences with other local professionals. If someone was wonderful to work alongside I’ll give them a thumbs up. If someone didn’t work in a way that I felt was best for my clients I’ll let you know we have a different approach to weddings. Having a team that works well together will make your day run smoothly and in the end everyone will have better results. In fact, that’s why we’re a part of a larger team! You can scroll to the bottom of this blog and check out our partners: Erie Photography, Erie DJ Entertainment, Erie Photo Booth and Erie Planning. We’re part of a larger wedding company that works closely together often during each wedding season. And (BONUS) our company offers a discount if you book the teams together.

Tell Me About How I Get My Video?

I saved this question for last, because it’s really the last step of the process. You’ll want to know how your video is delivered and how long you can expect to wait for it. Every Videographer is different in their approach. A lot of old school Videographers deliver one copy on a DVD. This allows them to completely control the video distribution. It’s an unburnable copy so you’re forced to purchase additionals from them. Some newer ones will deliver your video on a flash drive. This gives you a bit more control over the content. Lastly, we’re in a group of professionals who offer online delivery. Our clients get a private website address where their video is viewable, downloadable, and shareable any way they’d like. This gives you complete control and easy access to whatever you wish.

As far as delivery time goes..well it can take on average 6-12 weeks because the editing process is long and tedious and during wedding season can be interupted with the fact that we can’t spend as much time in the office. We’re out a lot filming weddings like yours. Some videographers leave all their editing until the end of wedding season because of this and you have to wait until December for your June wedding video. It’s really best to ask so you’re not sitting on pins and needs later on.

Wedding Videographer Cost

In conclusion, be sure to ask the wedding videographer questions about their process, what they include in their packages, and what kind of equipment they use. This will help you make an informed decision and ensure that you get the best possible video of your big day!

Don’t Miss These Five MUST-HAVES In Your Wedding Video

What Can’t I Leave Out of My Wedding Video?

Your wedding video is one of the most important items you will ever purchase. It is a cherished memory that you and your family will enjoy for many years to come. There are certain shots that should be included in your wedding video in order to capture the essence of your special day.

So, what do you need to ask your Videographer to include in your wedding video? Check out our list and take notes.

Wedding Video
Wedding at Whispering Trees Manor

The Emotional First Look

When it comes to wedding videos, most couples focus on the reception and the speeches. While those are both important parts of the day, they can often overshadow the bride and groom’s first look. That moment is a special one, full of emotion and sentimentality. It’s a chance for the newlyweds to share a private moment before all of the chaos starts.

Some couples choose to do their first look in a more private setting, away from all of the guests. Others choose to do it right before the ceremony, so everyone can witness it. No matter when you choose to do it, make sure you take the time to capture it in your wedding video. You’ll be glad you did.

The Awe Inspiring WalkUp the Aisle

When the bride walks down the aisle on her wedding day, it is an awe-inspiring sight. The love and excitement is clear for everyone to see and it is a beautiful moment that will be remembered forever. In addition, the groom’s emotional reaction is unforgettable. It’s one of my top favorite moments from every wedding I serve. Capturing the walk down the aisle in your wedding video is a wonderful way to relive the memories of the day, and it provides a lasting record of the event.

Wedding Video

Music to My Ears- The Speeches

Your vows and speeches are an important part of your wedding day. They are a chance for you to express your love for each other in front of all your friends and family. You want to make sure that these memories are captured on video so that you can look back on them and relive the joy of your wedding day.

Make sure that you work with your videographer to capture these important moments. Plan ahead and let your videographer know what you would like to have recorded. Be sure to rehearse your vows and speeches so that you can deliver them confidently in front of the camera.

Likewise, the toasts and speeches during your reception need to be preserved to listen to and relive the laughter and love.

Not sure if your videographer will be capturing audio on your wedding day? One of the tell-tale signs is actually how much you invested in their service. Find out more: How Much Should a GREAT Wedding Videographer Cost?

The Extra Special Moments

One of the biggest mistakes a couple makes is short changing themselves when it comes to Wedding Video coverage. They do this in two ways.

The first is to not book enough time to cover the special moments at the reception such as Grand Entrance, Cake Cutting, Newlywed First Dance, Parent Dances & Bouquet Toss. But this isn’t the worse thing couples do.

Those extra special moments I’m talking about are the ones that happen alone. Many brides only think about newlywed photos and they forget the newlywed video. Making sure to schedule some time alone with just your video team on your wedding day to capture the love in your eyes as you gaze at each other is so essential to your Wedding Video. Stop and cherish these moments. Sway together in the sunset and allow your videographer to preserve the love you felt in that moment.

The Often Forgotten Details

Admit it, you spend 85% of your wedding planning focusing on the details. You pour over color swatches, fabric, flowers, and center pieces. You spend hours viewing venues to find the perfect one with just the right atmosphere. You waste, I mean invest, days going through Pinterest to get inspired for a wedding cake and theme. And then what do you do? You completely ignore all that work by forgetting to ask your Wedding Videographer to preserve it in your wedding video. I’m not kidding. I’ve had to gently nudge brides about how much they’ll regret not having video and photos of all the hours of work they put into making this day spectacular.

So, What Don’t You Want to Forget in Your Wedding Video?

In conclusion, your wedding video should capture the moments that are most important to you. Be sure to include the ceremony, the reception, and any special moments that you want to remember forever. As you plan your wedding video, keep these tips in mind, and you’re sure to create a keepsake that you’ll treasure for years to come.

Top 5 Reasons Why You’ll Never Regret Hiring a Wedding Videographer

Top 5 Reasons Why You’ll Never Regret Hiring a Wedding Videographer

Why Hire a Wedding Videographer?

When you’re planning your wedding, there are a lot of important decisions to make. One decision that may not be at the top of your list, but is still very important, is whether or not to hire a wedding videographer. Here are 5 reasons why you should consider hiring one:

Wedding Videographer Cost
Wedding Videographer Cost

You Won’t See Everything on your Wedding Day

You won’t see everything on your wedding day because you’re experiencing a lot of it. BUT, your Wedding Videographer does and they preserve it for you! When you’re planning your wedding, it’s important to consider all of the little moments that will make up the day. From the bride getting ready to the first dance, your wedding videographer will capture all of those special moments that you might miss. They’ll also be able to capture the speeches and other important toasts, so you can relive your wedding day over and over again.

Your Wedding Videographer will Capture Movement & Sound

Even more than your photographer, your Wedding Videographer is going to capture the essence of your Wedding Day by capturing the movement and sounds. Imgaine being able to relive the giggles of the flower girls, the applause after your first kiss, and the tear jerking speech your Maid of Honor gives at the reception. Typical Wedding Photography only goes so far when preserving those sentimental moments.

You’re Creating Your Family’s First Piece of History

When you’re planning your wedding, one of the most important decisions you’ll make is who will capture the day on video. You want someone who will create a beautiful and lasting heirloom, not just a recording of the event.

A good wedding videographer will work with you to create a storyboard that tells the unique story of your wedding day. They’ll capture all the important moments, both big and small, and edit them together into a beautiful film that you’ll be able to watch for years to come.

Your wedding video is an important part of your family history, and it’s worth investing in a good videographer who will create a lasting legacy for you.

Your Love Story Bears Repeating

Your wedding video is one of the most important memories from your big day. After all the planning and the chaos, it’s a great way to relive all of the memories. Plus, you can watch it over and over again without getting tired of it!

A good wedding videographer will capture all of the important moments from your day. They’ll film the ceremony, the speeches, and all of the fun dancing. You’ll be able to watch it again and again and see everything that you missed on the day.

You Can Share it with Everyone

One of the best reasons to hire a Wedding Videographer is the ability to share your love story. This became a priority for so many couples over the last few years as wedding celebrations have been downsized and limited.

More modern and up to date videographers now share video on an online viewing site. (We do!! Reach out and ask.) This means you can share with anyone you want wherever they are located by simply emailing them your link!

Another shareable option to come out of the last few years is live streaming. And no, I’m not talking about the chintzy live streaming available on Facebook. I mean honest to goodness real live streaming with equipment that resembles what you’d see for a professional sporting event with multiple angles for enjoyment. Our service is complete with a customized private website just for yout big day.

Wedding Videographer Cost

In conclusion, hiring a wedding videographer is an important decision that you will never regret. By capturing the memories of your wedding day, you will be able to relive the joy and happiness of that day for years to come. Videographers capture the emotions of the day in a way that photos cannot, and they are a great way to preserve your wedding memories. So if you are on the fence about hiring a videographer, don’t be – you won’t regret it!

How Much Does a GREAT Wedding Videographer Cost?

How Much Does a GREAT Wedding Videographer Cost?

How Much Does a Wedding Videographer Cost?

When it comes to wedding planning, one of the most important decisions a couple will make is choosing who will capture their big day on film. Wedding Videographer cost is certainly an investment, but it’s worth it to have a beautiful record of your wedding day that you can watch and share for years to come. Here are some tips for finding the right videographer and understanding the cost.

Wedding Videographer Cost
Wedding Videographer Cost

Figuring out what Wedding Videographers Cost

According to popular Wedding websites like Wedding Wire & The Knot, a Wedding Videographer cost ranges from $1,000-$2,500. But, I’ve seen videographers in the Erie, Pa area charge as little $700 and as much as $6,000. So, who do you trust and how much do you budget? It can be a very challenging area to make a decision. In addition, it’s a decision you need to make early on in your wedding planning. You’ll need to put aside money in your wedding budget. Also, you’ll need to check and make sure the pros you like are available. If you wait too long you won’t be able to find someone you can trust.

What Goes into Wedding Videographer Cost?

First, you might be wondering what goes into Wedding Videographer Cost? After all, it’s only a 6 hour day, right? So…so…so…wrong. Let’s break it down for you.

Wedding Videographer Cost

The Gear

The first thing that you need to consider is the gear or equipment a wedding videographer is offering you. Just like with everything else in life there are levels of quality. If a Wedding Videographer is quoting you below the local average cost, you can bet he’s using low quality or beginner gear. This means more chance for mistakes and missing key moments of your wedding day. These are moments you can’t get back, ever. In addition, wedding video coverage is more than just the visuals. It’s the audio too. A low cost videographer may not bring proper audio recording equipment with them. If they do bring some, they may not understand how to use it properly. This is important to know if listening to your vows is your dream.

On the other side, a Wedding Videographer who is quoting you on the higher end, most likely has invested in higher quality gear. Some of these pros purchase equipment that is movie making quality. The visual and audio production will leave you feeling like a Hollywood star in your own feature film.

The Experience

This is a core piece of the Wedding Videographer Cost puzzle that you can find out right away. Simply ask: How many years of experience do you have filming weddings? Add to that: How many weddings have you filmed? And then ask the very important question: How many weddings do you accept per year? Follow with: How many weddings do you film per day?

You want to make sure you’re happy with all of these answers before hiring anyone. Just because $700 sounds like a good deal, doesn’t mean it is if they don’t have the experience to capture your wedding day and preserve the feelings. There is not right or wrong answer for how many weddings or how many years will make someone worth it, but they should be honest with you. And, if your budget is lower and they are honest and tell you they don’t have any experienvce and are learning, well at least they are honest and you know what to expect.

An experienced pro is going to charge more because you’re paying for his real life learning. He’s been through it all. He’s had grandma stand in front of him with a cell phone blocking his view. He’s had to deal with all sorts of emergencies, lighting conditions, personalities, and things that would make you shudder. He’s used all of these moments to learn and grow. He’s well seasoned and worth your investment.

The Time

Finally, the time. This goes back to our orignal mis-conception of Wedding Videographer Cost. After all, it’s only 6 hours. Why does it cost so much?

Easy answer: It’s not just 6 hours. Let’s break it down here:

  • Pre-wedding time (meetings, emails, story boarding, etc.) 8-15 hours
  • Day before Wedding (checking, prepping and packing gear) 5-10 hours
  • Wedding Day (loading gear, travel, unloading, setting up, reviewing plans, shooting, reloading, travel, unloading) 10-15 hours
  • After Wedding Day (Sorting film clips, selecting clips, editing, syncing audio, syncing music selections, buffering) 30-60 hours

You can see that the hours invested by a professional range from 53-100. Now, imagine you’ve only set aside $700 for your wedding film. That breaks down to $7 an hour. That’s less than minimum wage. Do you trust someone who values their service as worth less than minimum wage to preserve your wedding day memories? I bet you had no idea that’s how much work goes into a 5-20 minute wedding film. It’s something most couples never consider. Wedding Videograher Cost directly shadows how much they feel they’re worth.
